Installing your Military Stencils

Please read all instructions before starting and TAKE YOUR TIME.

1. Smooth out you new stencil flat, it may help to rub over with credit card to make sure it is stuck to transfer paper (the low tack paper).
2. Place stencil on vehicle or article and using masking tape fix along one edge or side, longest side usually the best. It is best to only stick your stencil onto your vehicle when you are ready to do your painting, as if left on for weeks they can become more difficult to remove!
3. Measure and make sure you are happy with position, remember it’s easier to measure and adjust now than rub down and repaint later!!
4. Now using the masking tape as a hinge flip stencil over.
5. Carefully remove the thicker waxy backing paper, (you may find it helpful with a second pair of hands if you have a large stencil) leaving the stencil on low tack transfer paper. This will hold all the bits in their correct place, until stencil is stuck down. If you are sticking down a large stencil (say bonnet star) you may find it helpful to fix with tape across the centre and remove the backing paper from one side slicing close to centre fixing tape, then smooth down first side, then repeat on other side.
6. Slowly start to turn back your stencil, smoothing out as you go onto surface, use a credit card or similar to do this. This will remove bubbles and help stick.
7. Now its time to peel back the transfer paper, start at one top corner and pull at 45 degrees, smoothing as you go so to eliminate any wrinkles or air pockets. This will stop any paint creeping under and give you nice clean crisp outlines. (Unless you want the rough in the field of combat look of course!!)
8. Mask off surrounding area now- this stops the over spray or paint spots in areas it shouldn’t be.
9. Now using a paint that won’t react with any base paint you may have, have a word with Frank at Frank Burbery Paints +44 (0)1209 719022 for Military colour paint supplies, build up the level to required thickness and finish you are wanting.
10. When dry peel off stencil in one piece if possible.
11. Now all you have to do is remove the masked off area and admire your work.

How to apply your new Sticker Decals

Please read all instructions before starting and TAKE YOUR TIME.

Only to be applied to non porous surfaces.
Before you start lay graphic out flat and carefully rub over with credit card or similar to ensure sticker elements are stuck to low tack application tape. This will help when peeling from backing waxed paper.

Small stickers or those with small lettering or detail, The Dry Method

Tools for the job: Lint-free Cloth
Hard plastic Squeegee

For optimum results, apply decal at room temp or above. But not direct hot sun, NB If trying to apply in colder temperatures the process will be harder and great care taken when removing application tape.

1. Clean the surface thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. For best results, the surface must be clean and free of all waxes and residue. Decal will not stick to wax but can be waxed over after.
2. Lay sticker on flat surface low tack down, then slowly pull the backing (heavier gauge paper) off from the decal may be easier as an angle of 45 degs. If part of the decal moves out of its original position or stays on waxed backing paper, you can put it back into place by pushing the backing down and move the decal back to its original position and making sure its stuck to tack paper.
3. Decide where you want to place the decal and carefully apply the adhesive side of the decal to the surface.

IMPORTANT: Once the decal is applied to the surface, it cannot be re-adjusted. If you want the chance of being able to re-adjust the decal after applying it to the surface use the wet application instructions. The wet application method is recommended for large decals, but you may also choose to use it on small decals.

4. Remove the masking tape by slowly peeling at the corner. If there are any air bubbles under the decal, work the bubble to the edge of the decal with your fingers or squeegee. You can also use a small needle to poke a hole in the bubble and work the bubble toward the hole to flatten the surface. Many small bubbles will disperse of their own accord in a few days.
5. Please do not wash over decal for at least 72 hours after application to allow time to adhere properly.

Large stickers or those with larger flat areas, The Wet Method
Tools for the job:
Lint-free Cloth
Hard plastic Squeegee
Slippery Solution (a small drop of liquid soap and 5ml methylated spirit diluted in a litre of water)

For optimum results, apply decal at room temp or above. But not direct hot sun, NB If trying to apply in colder temperatures the process will be harder and great care taken when removing application tape.

1. Clean the surface thoroughly with lint-free cloth.
3. Mix a single drop of soap with water into a spray bottle to create a “slippery solution.” Spray the solution to the adhesive side of the decal.
4. Spray the solution to the surface area where the decal will be installed on. Make sure the surface area is completely wet to ensure that you can make proper adjustments to the decal later.
5. Apply the adhesive side of the decal to the surface. At this point before the slippery solution dries, you can adjust and readjust the decal without damaging it.
6. Once you are satisfied with the position of the decal, go over the top of the decal with a squeegee. Working from centre out to push water and bubbles out. Repeat this a few times you must try to get most of the slippery solution out from between the decal and the surface.
7. Wait approximately 15 to 30 minutes for the decal to dry more if circumstances need, time to let adhesive to start to hold. Spray over once more to soak paper then, remove the masking tape by slowly peeling away from the corner pulling diagonally; you can push back on any part of decal that starts to lift. If there are any air bubbles under the decal, work the bubble to the edge of the decal with your fingers or squeegee. You can also use a small needle to prick a hole in the bubble and work the bubble toward the hole to flatten the surface. Many small bubbles will disperse of their own accord in a few days.
8. Please do not wash over decal for at least 72 hours after application to allow time to adhere properly.
